i am planning to move to los angeles on day but i can not drive does anybody know how long i have to live there before i can take my test?. thank you.

First you have to be a legal resident in the USA. You can apply for a permit and write the test the first day. Then you have to make an appointment to take the driving test, which is generally 2-3 weeks later. If you are not a legal US resident, even on a temporary work visa, you cannot get a license. I came on a TN visa and got my California license a couple months before my Canadian one expired.
