What makes America the best country in the world and the best place to live

What makes America the best country in the world and the best place to live?
My fellow Americans are always saying that this country is the best in the world. As far as the standard of living do you really believe America is the best country on earth or close to it? I'm hoping to travel to some of the places I think that look like they have a better standard of living than America such as Germany and France- ( in pictures and on camera these places look like they have more culture and are nicer than America) True or not? What makes America so good anyway?

Anyone who says America is the best country in the world has obviously never lived anywhere but here. They need to get over themselves. Like melee DPS.

The reasons Americans say this is because they have never lived anywhere else, believe me it's not,and now it's worse than it was before. I have lived in England, Canada,United Arab Emirates and Australia . All are better than the States. Edit..... Tim C you need to get your facts right.Edit....ok Tim name the countries that chop off heads for complaining about the president. None of the places I lived did that, and none shot their leaders like the states did, several times.

No, America isn't the best country in the world. To start with there's too much sex going on and the women are too selfish. You really really ought to go to Europe and see for yourself what life is like there. Don't miss Italy for sheer beauty and histoy.

What do you define as a better standard of living? America is the best country in the world because you can express your true hatred for the President of the United States, because it is our right. Try going to another country and doing that, you will be executed. America also allows anyone to come from nothing to achieve greatness, well at least for now it does. People try saying that socialist countries give free insurance and pay no taxes. There is a reason for that. If your working 40 hours a week, half of your money goes to the government to pay for the insurance for the guy down the street who has no job. I know we should all look out for each other, but where do we draw the line as adults and realize that we do need to take responsibility for ourselves. Look at middle eastern countries, do you think the women there would like some of the freedoms women in America have. You know, dressing in clothing that shows their face, or perhaps not being inferior to men. Lets look at the starving children in other countries who are blessed to have a piece of bread when children in this country are becoming obese because of the overconsumption. We are so lucky as Americans we take everything for granted because it has been our social norm to recieve everything. It doesn't work like that anywhere else. Hope this helps Explain to me John T which of my facts you feel are not valid???? http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=61272 That article took one search to witness freedoms we have in the US are not allowed in China. "There are more raids, foreign Christians are not having their visas renewed and are being forced to leave the country. There are numerous circumstances where the churches are under attack by the government." http://www.cdi.org/terrorism/aljihad.cfm Al-Jihad first gained notoriety in 1981 with the assassination of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat. This article explains just a bit more on how people take for granted our freedoms in this country. In regards to attempting assassinations towards our presidents. You are talking about the 4 Presidents in our history who have been assassinated. Compare that to the goverments who are killing civilians today because they do not agree with their political agenda. I would much rather have 4 crazy civilians living in my country than a dictatorship creating genocide.

Im American. And im not just gonna say it is because i am american. But in my opinion, Overall it is, but it depends. You wouldnt want to live in Compton, or detroit, or any other ghetto. But also dont want bombs in your back yard. The European countrys are nice, but i think there really boring. Looks like a place that only old people are just walking around smiling. but whatever, i think america is.

In my opinion the US is the greatest country on earth because of its principles and what it stands for. I want to make that clear before what I say below. However, having lived overseas for a while, I can see that in the US these days our rights have been greatly eroded. In the US, I can no longer standoutside and take photos of public buildings or trains or anything, without being hassled by the police or security guards (all in the name of "security") . In other countries I can do that without problems. In the US, there's always talk about open freedom, but on television they can show violence and people getting shot up, cursing, getting killed, but if you show one boob, everyone goes crazy! Guts and blood is ok, but show one boob on television for less then a second, and it makes the country go crazy? (aka Janet Jackson incident at the superbowl a few years back). Living overseas I would say other countries are more "liberal" in life, while in the US, many things are still really conservative and restrictive. Tim C, in the countries I have been to, I can express my anger towards the President, the leader , the king or queen without fear of being executed, America isn't the only country in the entire world with freedom of speech, and it is ignorance to imply it is. Yes there are other countries that restrict such items, but there are other countries like the US that offer the SAME freedom of speech and even more open freedoms for us to decide not what the government decides. Freedom of speech in America is greatly limited in many ways these days all in the name of "security". Don't get me wrong, I am American, and again I said I think its the greatest country on the planet for what the constitution stands for. However, is it the best place to live? Well it depends on many factor. Also other countries have free or subsidized national health insurance, the USA, is the only major industrialized country in the world without a National Health Insurance system. Whatever your opinion on the matter is, the fact is there are millions of Americans without health insurance, and the cost of going to the doctors and hospitals is expensive. The world is not perfect and you can't simply tell millions of other Americans to get a job and work for it, there are many reasons why they can't. Transportation in the USA is based around the car, in Europe and places like Japan, public transportation like trains provide easy access from place to place, thus reducing reliance on cars, and getting more people out to actually walk, ride bikes etc. If you lived overseas in other open democratic countries, you have a feeling of more "freedoms" that have not been eroded thanks to the prior administration in the name of "security", you also don't have silly hiprocracy of showing blood and violence on television, but showing one boob causes the world to go upside down. Sorry but that is just silly. One boob and everyone goes crazy, showing a female butt on NYPD blue CBS gets fined millions of dollars. But showing the ugly butt of Dennis Franz is not? Sorry but thats just screwed up opinion and policy making. Violent crime in the USA is very high compared to other developed countries. For example, Japan has half the population of the US, yet only a fraction, a fraction of the violent crime. Better "standard of living" "best place to live" is completely different from "what is the best country". And its good to make that distinction. I think America is the best country in the world for what it stands for. I make that very clearly so I do not want you to get me wrong as some anti American crazy. I often defend the US when I know its right and what it stands for in freedom and liberty. But as an American who has lived in other places, there are many other countries that I am afraid that excels even the US in "standards of living". In fact if you look at the Human Development Index, the US ranked 15th in Development. Thats high, but there are 14 other countries that have higher standards.
