I am Mexican, but I do not speak Spanish. Both of my parents are Mexican, but only my mom speaks Spanish. I speak fluent English, it is my first language. I get crap if I mess up when I try to speak Spanish even though English is the only thing I have been around for the majority of my life. I live in America, it's the language I had to learn to get around in life. Is there another person out there who doesn't speak their ethnic language? (Like a Chinese person who doesn't speak Mandarin.)

Not really. I'm also Mexican American and I'm happy to be able to speak both languages fluently. Don't pay attention to those who give you crap, at least you know a little Spanish and try to use it even if you don't speak it well. That's better than knowing Spanish but denying you speak it like many Mexicans/Hispanics do because they think they will be seen as illegals if they speak Spanish. I speak Spanish when I'm with my close friends who are all hispanic and sometimes people give me looks because they probably think I don't speak English but I actually do speak it very well but Spanish comes more naturally to me.
