Do you have to buy a house to live in America if you want to become a perm. resident?
I am an American citizen married to a british citizen. We got married in America 2 years ago and moved over to England. I have been living here for over 2 years now. We have a child together and we are interested in moving to America to live permanently. Would we have to own a house for my husband to become a permanent resident or could we rent one?

Renting would be fine. Wouldn't buying be a bit presumptuous anyways.

You don't even need to rent. You can move in with a friend or family member. All that matters is that you display an intent to relocate in order to file your I-130 and have a financial sponsor in the United States.

For your husband to me Permanent Resident, you need to file petition for his immigrant visa at US Embassy in England. Also, you need to prove that you have US domicile to live when you move and you have enough income to be financially responsible for your husband. If you don't meet the income requirement, you need co-sponsor. http://london.usembassy.gov/dhs/uscis/i130filing.html http://familybasedimmigration.com/forum/showthread.php?t=824 http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?autocom=custom&page=dcf
