If you were born in another country and you come to live in America and become a citizen, are you now American?
I had an argument with my boyfriend over this. I said if you come to live in America, you work in America, you go to school in America, you gain citizenship then you are now American. I said yes you do become American. He said no you don't.

You are right. One may not be an American by birth but they can become a naturalized citizen, making them an American by choice. BTW, did you know the Constitution doesn't guarantee citizenship to those born here? You also have to be subject to our laws.

Yes you become an Ameican. If you come to America, gain citizenship but pledge allegiance to another country, you might as well go back.
