You've obviously never been to Mexico. Go there, and your question should answer itself.

As US companies moved their manufacturing plants to Mexico, many Mexicans left the farms and moved to the cities to find jobs. As those same companies realized that Mexico also had labor laws and a minimum wage, they noticed that countries such as Pakistan and India had much laxer laws. The companies moved their factories to India and left a lot of unemployed Mexicans. They still have families to feed so many go to the US to find work.

Most Mexicans who cross the border without papers either look for work or need to be with family. You can read an interview on the subject at http://realtijuana.blogspot.com/2010/11/mike-unwily-coyote.html No, Mexico is not part of the Third World. (For that matter, the Third World ended with the Cold War. We now have simply the underdeveloped, the developed, and the ... err ... overdeveloped.) What's wrong with Mexico is neoliberalismo; that deserves a section of its own. The border you mention is only a century and a half old. People have been crossing it and recrossing it even before it became a border, so why stop now? The area has always been semi-nomadic. The most recent pressure on northward migration has been NAFTA and the disenfranchisement of our agricultural population from their land. Mexico now imports its corn from the United States. Mexico now imports ninety percent of its chiles from China. Our farmers have become unemployable because of international competition: they are now looking for any way at all to feed their families.

NAFTA forced my parents, uncles, neighborh to immigrate!!. I am a son of immigrants we Mexicans have many reasons to immigrate to America and it goes way back when some of the current Americans states belonged to Mexico. My grandma was born in colorado in the 1916 . She used to go back in forth but got marry in Mexico. She lived there for some times but there was always the mentality of coming to America this mentality for some reason transform to a dream to younger generations. My point here is some come for work yes some absolutely don't have nothing to feed their family with. Some is just family almost every Mexican have relatives in both sides of the border. Personally I think some of the younger generations I think are the victims from the "Dream" that first immigrants created what I mean by that is that early generations glamorized the dream by taking tons of money to poor communities big huge cars and trucks. There is many reason hopefully I made sense to some and I help you. I also invite to learn more just google.

Even though Mexico isn't a 3rd world country the government is corrupt and does not give all of the money to it's people... instead they get extremely low wages for working 6 days a week. The life is a struggle there for most people... many people want to go to the US to make money so they will have a better life and usually that means going there to work and make money while sending money back to their families... sometimes they may save so they can go back to Mexico to buy a house or start a business.

I'm a mexican..and I can tell you that there is a lot of money in Mexico, but unfortunately the Mexican Government keep it all for themself and doesn't distribute it among it's people, and they don't take care of the country either(bad streets, bad services, utilities are too expensive, etc). So if you work here..you will see that the minimum wage is around $5.00 dollars per day( not per hour..but per day),so it's totally ridiculous!!. So I believe the only ones who can enjoy this beautiful country(Mexico) are Foreigners,People who have their own bussiness, politicians(because they are corrupt),and maybe some people who graduated from University...but this country is an "economical hell" if are just an employee or a farmer (90% of the population are employees and farmers),because with a minimum wage here you cannot even eat well.
