Wade is one of my main lines, in colonial Virginia. I can tell you that there are a number of posted files online that claim to "connect" them.. and I am also well aware that much of what I have seen, is completely based on guesswork and faulty assumptions. There are SEVERAL Wade individuals who are proven to be in Virginia prior to 1700, and to MY KNOWLEDGE, no one has proof of how they are (or are not) related. In other words, there is NO one "first" Wade, who is the ancestor of all the Wades in the country. There is a DNA project working on this surname. It backs up that SOME are related to each other, while others are not. There also are Wades who immigrated to New England/ Northern states.. the wording of your question says that your interest is in the southern lines. Without knowing any proven relationship, you can not say "the family" as to having a plantation or farm. Yes, a number of these were large land owners, and did own slaves. As to intermarriage with Native American lines.. the only way to answer is exactly who are you talking about? If you have arrived at some identities of your ancestors, I hope you have worked from the present backwards. I have close to 30 yrs experience with research, as well as this being one of "my" families. In no other family, do I say this as emphatically as possible.. DO NOT accept information as being correct, just because you find it online, and 'most' people seem to accept it. I don't know if this man was the very first Wade male in the USA, but I found this listing on www.ancestry.com: John WADE , Sr. Birth: 1642 in Scituate, Plymouth County, MA Death: 24 MAR 1726/27 in Lyme, New London County, CT. His brother, Thomas WADE , was also born in 1642. Not stated if they were twins. His father, : Nicholas WADE b: 1615 in Denver Parrish, Norfolk County, England , d. 4 FEB 1682/83 in Scituate, Plymouth County, MA .

That would be a bit hard to say who was *first*, it may well have been several hundred years ago and before any records were kept.
