What are some disadvantages of living in America

What are some disadvantages of living in America?
I've always wanted to live in America, even if just temporarily. I currently live in Australia. Could anyone possibly list some disadvantages of living in America? What's the best part of the USA? Could you compare Australia to it? Where are some other really nice places to live? America looks so cool in TV shows and when I visit...

i dont see any disadvantages of living in the US. i'm very happy living here. the politics get annoying and prices have been high, but thats anywhere you live. there are so many "best parts" of the US....the grand canyon, niagra falls, red sequoia trees in california, yellowstone park, sand dunes in michigan, pure white sand on the beaches in florida...too many to list. i've never been to australia so i cant make a comparison.

I do not live in America so I cannot tell for sure. But I have travelled a lot and from what I have seen and tasted I can tell you something which cannot be found in books but stems from personal experience.. Back in 2007 I have travelled in Central Vietnam and in California the next month. Although both regions were bordering the pacific, it was difficult to imagine two more different places. Central Vietnam had borne the brunt of the American war. California has always been at the forefront of the Amer can dream, with the Silicon valley showing the way. But once I cared for some food in my plate, uit was amazing to see that Vietnamese cuisine I ate in Hue was both better and healthier than what was served in a good hotel in San Diego. I must a mit that I appreciated sea products in both places, but in Vietnam the cooks were better. In terms of professionnalism, Californians are currently incomparably better than Vietnamese, they work a lot and they have a sense of achievement whereas Vietnamese are still lagging. But Vietnamese face globalization as they waged war, with a sense of strategy and a capacity to achieve a winning position, being both modest and ambitious. I also felt that in California you have to earn a lot just to be considered a human being. People there are unforgiving. In Vietnam although the cult of money is gaining momentum in big towns like Ha Noi and Saigon, they really know how to devote time to some other values like family, friends, culture, politeness, solidarity.

That is Hollywood. In every single way, California is one of the worse places to live. There are few jobs, real estate is incredibly expensive. There is a powerful elite that runs the place, as in every place in the US. California, depending on the place, has the highest crime rates in the world. Their horrible health care system leaves thousands of homeless and insane people in their inner cities. The anxiety produces a certain brutal behavior mostly stereotyped in New York City, but is evident in nearly every large city. Their farms have been reduced to plantations of illegals. Their rural populations have been decimated by the destruction of their manufacturing base, creating epidemics of meth drug use and a persuasive feeling of utter helplessness. There are fortresses of sanity, typically near universities, which are like the new Monasteries of the new Dark Ages. However, the bubble like nature of these preserves is a bit disconcerting. Even in San Francisco, Haight and Ashbury has turned into a tourist trap. But such destruction and chaos does produce it's angels, it's valiant, and it's saviors. Perhaps unique to California are it's knights in shining armor, it's explorers, it's artists and experimenters. There is a strong gay pride movement - indeed every sexual practice has it's own bar and group, a feminist movement, an anti-war movement. There are socialists, anarchists, communists and libertarians. It is impossible not to go to Santa Cruz California and not be surprised by some street musician, restaurant or some man giving a speech in the street. And if you do seek entertainment you will not be disappointed, all the way from Hollywood to San Francisco, from music, plays and street theater to planetariums and IMAX theaters - which are all the rage.

I live in America and I love living here. The best part of living here... Well, I don't really have any other countries to compare it to (I've lived here my whole life... Never even visited another country!) but I would have to say it would depend on where you live. I live in Tennessee (which is in the American South) and I absolutely love it here. The people down here tend to be more conservative and Christian than other parts of the country, but NEVER let people tell you this is a bad thing! People in the South are very easy to get along with as long as you are a kind person. The South is more laid back. Depending on where you go, the cities are usually not too big and a lot of people live in rural areas or small towns, which I personally prefer. The South prides itself on very strong family values, really good food, laid back attitude but hard work ethic, heritage and history, and of course laughter and having fun! The weather down here is quite hot though, with mild winters (mostly) and humid summers. In the spring there are bad storms and sometimes tornadoes. I would personally recommend Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas and Kentucky. However, all of America is a great place! If I could give any advice... Avoid the rust-belt (Cleveland, Detroit, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Erie...) I lived up there 2 years and it was very dreary and depressing for me... Also long harsh winters. Good luck with your future visit to America!
