What was the best decade to live in America

What was the best decade to live in America?
In your opinion, for me its the 1950's everything seemed more safe back then, less crime. But I like California beach culture of the 1970's as well lol.

Hahah. When I opened this question, I was going to say the 50's (as long as you're white). Looks like we agree.

Sure as hell wont be 2010 - 2020 if Dems keep Congress and the White House! Meanwhile....Now the state run media tell us that a 1% NEGATIVE GDP in 2Q (thats 4% ANNUAL) is faaaaaaaaaaantastic! Bush had a 1.7% Negative GDP for his ENTIRE last year and that was TERRIBLE! http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aNivTjr852TI Bush unemployment was under 5% for 7 out of 8 years (until Dems took Congress in Nov 2006) - HORRIBLE!! Obama has 9.5% unemployment and climbing - Faaaaaaantastic! Bush left office with a $400 Billion Deficit after 8 years- TERRIBLE!! Obama increases the deficit to 1 TRILLION in 6 MONTHS - faaaaaaaaaaaantastic! Dow hits ALL TIME HIGH of 14000 under BUSH - TERRIBLE! Dow hits 28 year low under Obama - Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaantastic! More minorities owned homes under Bush than any time in history - TERRIBLE! More minorities lose their homes to foreclosure under Obama than any time in history - Faaaaaaaaaaaaaantastic! Bush vacations at his ranch that he paid for HIMSELF - TERRIBLE Obama rents a $20 million vacation beach villa at taxpayer expense - Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaantastic! See the pattern??

Living in the backcountry in the early 1800s would be nice. No worries, no stressing about health insurance, the ecnonomy, or how to pay your bills.
7 :
the 60s!!!
8 :
When Regan was president.
9 :
The Roaring 20's!
10 :
The 60's were pretty good ...I would say !955-!965 was the best of times for me.

for whom?

This is a ridiculous question to answer, unless you are like 250 year's old. I mean really. Hey, I heard the 1890's were rocking. Everything is relative.
13 :
I wish I would have been born in the early 50's. I would have gotten to see the 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's. The best decades of all time. But instead I only got to see the last two months of the 80's.
14 :
Oh it was so nice when people were ignorant and gullible who can forget the 50's...
15 :
It's also the 1950s for me.
16 :
50s too uptight 60s too wild 1st half of 70s perfect 2nd half of 70s disco & DISCO SUCKS!
17 :
Was it really as good we remember it ( I would like to think so) or we more naive and uninformed, but I enjoyed the sixties

The one we're in now. If it isn't the best decade then we need to make it that way.

Poodle skirts were cute but the 50's were delusional...things were artificially safe. No one actually believed they were safe at all. 70's were an ugly offspring to the 60s...nothing good came from the 70s. Not cars, not clothes, not politics, nothing. The Roaring 20s, now there's a time I would've loved. Art, music, theater, science. Everything was alive and people were pumped. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roaring_Twenties

1950s, started to go wrong in the 60s, downhill fromn the 70s onwards. Civil rights has been the only social improvement.
21 :
The 1980s, the 1990s weren't bad either but we ended up with a lot of very spoiled kids..
22 :
The 90's.

I didn't think so at the time but, in retrospect, the 90's were pretty good. The 50's were Naive and ignorant and dangerous when you think about the nuclear threat. The 60's were a decade of CHANGE. Lot's of people died on the streets of america and south east asia. The 70's? Disco? need I say more? The 80's? A lame attempt to bring back the 50's. I did like some of the rock-a-billy I must admit. The 90's was the first post Soviet decade. Filled with promise and a new sense of patriotism. Unfortunately, it kept us distracted from the emergence of the terrorist threat. Which is what ushered in the new Millenium. Sad but, it was fun while it lasted.

the 1940's when Americans knew how to roll up there sleves and tackle a problem with out pissing moaning, like those cry baby hippies!
25 :
1950's for me. Lived and loved them.

I've lived for nearly seven decades and would be hard pressed to pick the best. We all tend to romanticize past decades, looking back. For example, we tend to think of the 50s like an episode of 'Happy Days' but I personally knew kids who were abused by their parents, a girl who died in a back alley abortion---she was pregnant with her father's baby---and housewives who were treated like dirt. I child predator even tried to pick up school kids in my neighborhood. All this was swept under the carpet. If I HAD to pick a favorite decade it would be the 1990s, but the downside to that was near the end when the republicans and democrats got totally sidetracked over Clinton's affairs and wasted a lot of tax money on the impeachment hearings.
27 :
People see the past with rose colored glasses. The 70's were horrible and the 50's were worse. Think Cold War with Nuclear threat and the heartbreak of Vietnam - go look at the Wall for a while. These things hung over those decade like a shifting cloud of despair. Anybody who could be happy then can be happy now.

This is a tough one for me. Here is why. Musically I cannot decide which was the greatest time period. The 70's or the 90's . Financially speaking its hard to decide Between the 80's and the 50's. tobcol, THAT IS THE POINT! OF COURSE IT TOTALLY RELATIVE ITS AN OPINION QUESTION
