How hard is it to get a Visa for a British Citizen to live in America

How hard is it to get a Visa for a British Citizen to live in America?
I want to go to the University of Wyoming hopefully in a few years, and if I manage to get a grant and everything, I was wondering if anyone could tell me the basic steps of what I would have to do to get a Visa to live in America for several years, and maybe even permanantely after that? Thanks

The process is thus: 1) Apply with the University of Wyoming; once accepted, they will help you get the paperwork for a student visa 2) Once you have that, apply for a student visa with the Embassy of the US in London Then with your visa in hand, you may come study in the US. The terms of a student visa specify that you must return to your country once your studies are complete, however there are ways you could adjust your status from student to something else (such as a worker visa) so that you could stay (though you may have to return to the UK temporarily in order to obtain your new visa in some cases). I wouldn't worry about that until the time comes, but you can keep in mind that that is allowed.
