Yes if you are under 18 your parents can let you live with other people or alone but if your over 18 they can't control what you do with your life although you should take their advice. If your parents don't give you permission to live with these ''other people'' then you can't.Not to tell you what to do with your life or anything but stay close to your parents

This is not really a good idea before you are 18. 18 makes you an adult for most purposes in the US, but not all. For instance, you have to be 21 to rent most apartments these days. It's not a law, but most private complexes won't rent to you before you are 21, and private businesses are allowed to do this if they so desire. Yes, you could live here with another adult, but that adult would really need legal guardianship of you. There are too many things you cannot do here before 18, and someone who is an adult would especially need to be able to legally make decisions on your behalf in a medical emergency situation.

You may become an emancipated minor before the age of 18, but you usually need to have your own independent income and prove to a court that you can handle it. The laws vary from state to state, but at 16 you are generally old enough to qualify for this status. A legal guardian is a person who is not one of your parents that can be given custody to watch after you. This status is also granted by a court. Without this status any adult living with you is just like any other person. There is no law that prevents you from living with another adult other than your parents as long as there are no sexual relations occurring or otherwise illegal activity (the person could be arrested for corruption of a minor in some states). Unless you are a U.S. citizen or have a green card, immigration issues may be your largest problem.
