If we make them pay an entrance fee it will weed out some and we can make some money to get out of debt. It is sad in a way to do this but it is reasonable when you think of all the costs one person crossing the border can cause. Maybe even 20,000. We could take it from their wages in payments and some will just pay it. Good for capitalism!

Well, an escrow fee. Put the money away to be released over time. Under certain conditions they can get it back over time with interest. Commit a crime, forget it, its gone and used to fight illegal immigration. Its good faith money that comes with the proposition that "I intend to come to America to do good, and here's my intent backed with cash I don't want to lose by getting a DUI, etc."

They already pay tax when they work in US & A.

Just make them do it legally. Then you can do the background checks to help ensure they will not be a drain on society. If they later fall below certain financial requirements, deport them.

What a great idea, I agree with you. But you know that those special interest groups will never go for that and they always seem to get their way. I am so sick of illegal immigration, I do not understand why we just cannot enforce the laws we already have in place.

Canada never charged for all of the draft dodgers that came their way. No telling how much money they could have made if they had done the same thing. Mexico hasn't done that for all of the U. S. residents living there or for the many U. S. fugitives from justice who use Mexico for a hiding place. Not exactly the best idea.

Every country that an American wants to live in will do the same. Not well thought out.

Retroactively, for your ancestors, yes!

I think that people who want to come to America to WORK and PAY TAXES should be exchanged for the thousands of useless American citizens who NEVER WORK, live in HOUSING PROJECTS, receive FOOD STAMPS, and continue procreating like rats and on the top of it all, will rob and commit other acts of violence against law abiding citizens. If we stopped giving free stuff to generation after generation of these bastards, we would be out of debt.

well, it can easily cost as much in lawyers fees.

$25K as a cover charge sounds about right. Charge $50K if the woman is pregnant. Enough with the anchor babies. Jeepdiva, I read that draft dodgers were welcome in Canada as immigrants and refugees since the draft took away a man's freedom and forced him to serve and risk death. Canada did not sympathize with our military aggression in VietNam at the time.

Some of these answers astonish me. If Americans just gave up, left the country and let the illegals (ALL illegals, not just mexicans.) people would still complain about something. How is it that every time someone tries to come up with a solution for illegal immigration that even REMOTELY would make things slightly difficult for illegals, people whine and moan about it? Do you know that some countries require you to have a certain amount of cash in the bank before you can immigrate there? Some require over $100,000. Illegally immigrating to these countries is unthinkable do to the punishment for such. But if the U.S. even thinks about doing so everybody cries racism! Your great-great-great grandparents were immigrants! blah blah blah. There are MANY folks in this world that would LOVE to see the downfall of the United States. That is the price for being the greatest country in the world for so long. When a country continues to bow down to a foreign invader that constantly bites the hand that feeds them, it is only a matter of time before that country crumbles. To those of you that repeat the same old, tired argument "WE didn't cross the border, the border crossed us!" Here is a thought: I don't care if land in the U.S. was once part of Mexico, is isn't anymore. You lost it, so stop your damn crying. I don't hear anyone in Spain crying about losing Mexico.

An entrance fee is an idea worth considering, but you also have to consider most of the illegals that cross into this country don't have that kind of money. The drug dealers and hit men, etc, might. They would pay their way into this country and do who knows what once they get here. I think we should just enforce the laws we have, including the ones that govern how to become citizens, and maybe add the fee to the other requirements for entering our country.

How much should the half a million Americans retired in Mexico pay then to go the other way!!
14 :
That's not very bright. Many people are coming to this country to FIND opportunities. If you had an "entrance fee," most of the people who would afford them from poverty-stricken areas are the drug cartels & criminals who have accumulated that money through crime. We need to think of another way to solve the problem. :-(
