Why do so many Americans just ASSUME you live in America

Why do so many Americans just ASSUME you live in America?
I'll ask a question and there's always someone who will answer in a way relating to America. From surveys I have conducted myself I've seen there's quite a multinational group here, in fact, at least when I'm on, there's often more English and Australians than Americans! This seems to be an occurence on other forums as well.

"What, you mean other places have internet as well, next you'll be saying they have the wheel as well?" :) Potential lack of awareness aside, the other thing, the relatively recent history of internet being what it is, it is associated with the U.S., so, for the Americans to whom it applies, perhaps they never thought of it as having become as popular abroad as at home, at least not for the uses used domestically - kind of like the "hamburger", popular at home, yet given its symbolic usage in controversies such as "American cultural imperialism", who can blame Americans for not realizing/considering other places may enjoy and appreciate their inventions afterall? Regards, Pat.
